The Swim-a-thon takes place in mid October every year and is an important fundraising activity of Nova Synchro. Athletes swim continuously for two hours to see how many laps they can complete (with re-hydration and bathroom breaks as needed). They are asked to obtain pledges prior to the event, either as a lump sum or per lap. The funds raised can either go to the swimmer to offset their fees or in support of a non-profit or charity selected by the club. It is a fun club event with music, snacks, and prizes! The Swim-a-thon is an integral part of the club's training program and all competitive swimmers are expected to participate.
Our 2021 Swim-a-thon is planned for October 23 from 8:30am - 12:00pm at the U of A West Pool.
Nova Synchro participates in a casino every two years. Nova Synchro is dependent on this casino financially, and casino revenues help keep the annual fee accessible to families. Each swimmer registered in the previous and current year must supply a worker 18 years or older to volunteer at this fundraiser.
There will be multiple other fundraising opportunities throughout the season for any families who are interested in offsetting the cost of their fees.
Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved with Nova Artistic Swimming in as many ways as possible to maintain a supportive organization for all swimmers. Nova Artistic Swimming is successful thanks to the effort and hours generously committed by many volunteers. There are a variety of jobs that require different levels of commitment, but everyone is expected to donate time. Parents can volunteer to serve on the Executive, filling such positions as Treasurer, Wardrobe Coordinator, or Meet Manager.
Opportunities for volunteering also arise at events during the year, from working a casino to timing swimmers at the Swim-a-thon, working at local meets hosted by Nova or chaperoning out-of-town meets. Appendix D provides a complete list of possible ways you can contribute to your swimmer's experience.
If you're interested in being a part of these dynamic groups please contact president@novasynchro.org.
